LORE
This page covers the stories of the land and other myths and histories that may or may not come as common knowledge to your character. As expected, the tales differ between different societies and countries, but in general, a lot of bear similarities.
The Banishment
Almost all cultures are aware and tell of this tale, but may have variances.
Centuries ago, beings known as monsters roamed this land. However, not all monsters were bad, some even being as intelligent as you and I. One monster, though, was made of pure evil. His very presence infected the monsters around him with insatiable bloodlust, causing them to go into a mad rage. Those that weren't affected by his overwhelming aura came to know him as the King of Darkness, and feared that he would one day cover all of Aestros in his evil. Just when all hope was lost, a party of four adventurers rose to face him, weapons at the ready. The four adventurers kept the King distracted long enough for a priestess of good to cast a powerful spell, one which sealed away the King forever. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the king that was lost. All beings with the monster trait vanished as well, gone without a trace. Many were uncertain whether this was truly a win, but overtime the rest of monster-kind were accepted as a necessary sacrifice.
Enraged by this, the gods went silent, and only one left a parting message.
"One day this will be undone, and you will suffer a wrath you have never known. Curse upon you and your children, heroes, and curse upon the ground you claim as home. Only when you have mended the bonds that you have broken will you be free. Until then, the gods turn their backs to you, to all of you."
And so became the prophecy. Monsters would one day return, and they would be angry. Many blame the heroes, and think their fate is fit for their deeds. Only one hero went on to have children, and in his kingdom his bloodline went on, and famine, plague, war, and all sorts of misfortunes fell upon them. That kingdom lies in South Ruso, and its residents are mainly poor souls with nowhere else to go, and criminals banished from everywhere else.
